I see that Lebeq United are in the Western League next season .... but who are they? There is a pub on the Stapleton Road in Bristol called the Lebeq Tavern ... but surely not?! And an odd team called Bristol Telephones have been granted a reprieve.
Lebeqs origins I believe, are tied to the area where the hostelry is in Brizzle. Previously playing on a parks pitch, they upped sticks in order to be able to progress. Now sharing Glos FA hq ground at Almondsbury which has lights, seats, covered terrace etc. (TTFC can but dream!) Roman Glass St. George in the Western League, are one of the other tenants.
Brizzle Phones are one of three clubs located at the Stockwood Lane area on the south edge of the city. Stockwood Wanderers play over the hedge next door & Cutters Friday on the pitch at the far end of the complex. I wonder if there will be any newbies in the Wilts League next season? One can but hope!
So essentially a pub team have made it to the Western League ... I am happy with Roman Glass because as a kid in Bristol, Bristol St George were a good side. Bristol Phones ... no idea who they are ...
